13 May Better Late Than Never: The April Wrap-Up from The Creative Desk
Hi!
Yes, I know—it’s May. And yes, this is the April blog post. But in the spirit of radical honesty, I’m calling this one “Better Late Than Never: The Entrepreneur’s Edition.” Because if you’ve ever tried to juggle running a business, supporting clients, and planning a house move… you’ll know exactly where I’m coming from!
April may have flown by in a blur of pastel-coloured to-do lists, last-minute meetings, and a few impromptu “I need a nap” moments—but it was also filled with growth, wins, and wonderful momentum here at The Creative Desk.
Here’s what went down behind the scenes:
Life Update: We’re Moving!
First things first—yes, I’m in the middle of a house move. Because nothing says “I like a challenge” quite like balancing logistics, client work, packing boxes, and making sure the kettle stays accessible at all times.
It’s all part of the glorious, chaotic dance of self-employment, isn’t it? One minute you’re scheduling social posts, the next you’re wondering which box you packed your desk lamp in.
Investing in Growth: Learning to Serve You Better
April was all about building the business in a sustainable way. I’ve been focused on developing new systems, refining workflows, and investing in training that will allow me to serve our clients even better—particularly those with neurodivergent minds and creative ways of working.
At The Creative Desk, we don’t just do admin—we offer strategic, supportive, human business management. That means keeping our skills sharp, our minds open, and our tools tailored to real humans (not just productivity spreadsheets!).
Here’s what’s been happening:
- Asana, Fyxer, Kirmada and CRM training (hello, better systems!)
- Learning about AI and automation through EleVAte, Canva Create 2025 and AI maturity webinars.
- Weekly evening sessions focused on course development and personal training.
- VA training with my lovely personal VA, Jannet to ensure The Creative Desk team continues to thrive.
I’ve also been researching Moxie for better CRM interfacing because I want our tech stack to work as hard as we do. It looks great, and The Creative Desk will test it for us and our clients.
Conversations That Count
From client check-ins to community support, April was packed with meaningful meetings:
- Regular catchups with Jannet (my VA powerhouse) and Stephanie from The ADHD Advocate (my go-to ADHD coach)
- Lovely chats with potential clients.
- A brilliant Neurodiverse Peer Support Group for VAs
These conversations fuel everything we do, and I’m beyond grateful for every collaboration, check-in, and shared “aha!” moment.
Celebrating April’s “Fun” Holidays (AKA: The Neurodivergent Energy Calendar)
This month gave us a whole set of quirky calendar dates that, quite frankly, felt very on brand:
6 April – World Pillow Fight Day: Because nothing clears executive dysfunction quite like a spontaneous pillow duel.
7 April – World Health Day: A gentle reminder that mental and physical wellness are business strategies.
18–21 April – Easter Weekend: Chocolate. Rest. Colour-coding the fridge. All vital.
22 April – Earth Day: Perfect timing to ground ourselves – bonus points if it included a nature walk between Zooms.
24 April – On Your Feet Britain: Standing desks, pacing phone calls, and movement as medicine? Yes please.
26 April – International Scream Day: Sometimes the tech breaks, the to-do list is overwhelming, and a good scream is just what the OBM ordered.
28 April—World Health & Safety Day at Work: We honoured this day with ergonomic setups and reinforced boundaries—our kind of health and safety.
Each day offered a cheeky reminder that neurodivergence isn’t a barrier—it’s a brilliant way of being, especially when we honour the rhythms that work for us.
What You Might’ve Missed on Social
This month was Stress Awareness Month, so we kept it honest on our Instagram and LinkedIn:
- World Autism Awareness Day
- Poppyland Radio pro bono feature
- Monday Motivation check-ins
- Client spotlights, OBM tips, and productivity with heart
Go on, have a scroll if you haven’t yet—we kept things honest, helpful, and (as always) a little quirky.
Building for What’s Next
I’ve been building something new and exciting behind the scenes between client work and curriculum development. While I can’t reveal too much just yet (cue dramatic music), I can say this:
May is about integration, momentum, and unveiling what we’ve been working towards. It’s about creating tools, offers and experiences that feel good, do good, and work for how your brain works.
Until then, grab your favourite cuppa and check out the Resource Hub for free downloads, guides, and goodies made just for neurodivergent creatives and entrepreneurs.
